The Video We Have Chosen
LADY GAGA- BEAUTIFUL DIRTY RICH
We really like the idea of doing something really challenging and different; yet at the same time it suits us as a group. It also contrasts greatly with the media video which we did for the AS part of the course , as this was a very gangster boyish style where we went against the conventions where as this year we want to conform to the usual things that Lady Gaga would do and be very similar but at the same time kind of different because there will be a group of us ; almost like bringing a girl group in to a situation and video made for one person. :-) Also the fact that we do A-Level Dance And ICT will help us choreograph and built the website and album cover.

Research In To Music Video , Lady Gaga Genre, And Album Cover
MUSIC VIDEO RESEARCH
'Music-video imagery often responds to musical parameter in a serial fashion-drawing our attention t the rhythm first' ( Carol Vernallis,Experiencing Music Video,2004) This quote makes a good point that in well designed music video you have to find the perfect balance, not only should the audience be watching the video but it should not detract any attention away from the song its self, it should enhance the experience of listening to the song and compliment it rather than over power it and people be watching purely for the video. Within music videos there is not really any rules when it comes to creating a music video; there can be an absence of narratives, most videos avoid a plot line and story as this again would be more attracting visual attention rather than listening to the music, its not always appropriate for their to be a story line- although some songs have a story line to them, some don't and its more fun and inspiring just to watch the artist dance around miming the song. When a narrative is introduced the happenings within the video take the attention of the song, lyrics and rhythm in the background witch without the music video would have never been made anyway.
Rihannas video for her song rude is a perfect example of a video with no narrative; there is no story line acting in the video, and to bring even more emphasis is brought to the song as some of the words come up on the screen any way, and the video contains mainly Rhianna dancing around, which similarly the song is made to want you get up and dance, so the visual aid of Rihanna and other people dancing and having fun is likely to make you want to get up and dance.
Here is a video witch is completely opposite, Beyonce's like a boy video has a narrative and although both the song and the video are really good and interesting, it does attract a lot of attention away from the songs itself.
'Video can carry an excess of meaning'( Carol Vernallis,Experiencing Music Video,2004). This quote relates to props, setting , choreography and mise-en-scene; meaning that most things within a video, in our video we need to aim for every clip and scene to mean something or be there for a reason, if there is props they should stand for something, and the costumes and actors we use should be purposeful and not just put in to fill in space.

LADY GAGA AS A GENRE
Lady Gaga is quite controversial, both in her music, videos and in the way she presents her self to the public, she as a person causes an uproar with her style and choice of clothing and how she amazingly changes the way she looks continuously, she started of as an average pop star, young beautiful and she was naturally conforming to the conventions of a pop artist, for example the style of her music and the videos she was very casual and well liked and a lot of males fancied her, how ever she changed her style so dramatically, numerous times and she is currently going for a role model look so she says in interviews, yet she still is half naked in her videos yet it is clear to see that she is not trying to be sexy like somebody such as Beyonce or similarly to The Pussy Cat Dolls.
As she is always changing its hard to categorize her or say what type of genre she is as a artist, how ever I will base my opinion on her genre in the Beautiful Dirty Rich video, which i think is still typical 'sexy' appealing version of her, and this is what we plan to conform to.
ALBUM COVER RESEARCH
We have choose a Lady GaGa song - Beautiful Dirty Rich to recreate a video for our media course work. Our bang will be mimicking all the same genres and stereotypical themes and images that run with a girl band , we will focus our attention on mainly trying to make the video similar to Lady GaGas ; however we will also look at other bands such as The Saturdays and The Pussy Cat Dolls.
This was Lady GaGas first album cover, as you can see her image is very feminine; yet also unique with the face paint. As it was her first cover it was important to have a close up of her to get her face well known.
The font is clear and defined with capitals for each and a girl pink underline which matches the colour eye makeup.
The face paint has became renound to Lady GaGa as no one had really done it before , this is something we could also focus on that would make our 'band' different.
This works as an album cover because the font and the image work really well together. Also they have written who produced it 'By Johhny Tapia' to advertise the name , or even this could help sell the album as he could be a well known name.
We think that as there is more of us it would be better for us to challenge our self and instead of having a close up we could go against this typical Lady Ga Ga convention and have it abit different.
Obviously with limited recourse's our album covers wont be as professional as those above but we think something abit more like this would be a suitable and achievable; as we have more then one member to our band there are four me Emily Christie and Charlotte.
As you can see they symbolise unity and 'girlpower' which is something we will aim to show , as we are already good friends this will be an easy image to give.
They are clothed in mainly black , or some controversial outfits maybe with stomachs out or shorts on :).
Both images are iconic of each band it represents the genre of the music as some of the lyrics suit the pictures , also Lady GaGa's pictures are very different and unique which is mirrored in her music which is very different from anything we have seen before , the only thing similar is Madonna.
As you can see the close up on Kylie's album it very similar to Lady Gaga's with the paint edited on to the face and the blonde hair very similar and both extremely successful artists.
As our group has decided to recreate Lady Gagas Song-Beautiful Dirty Rich, for this we will be required to make an album cover, ours will need be controversial and different in the style of Lady Ga Ga. :-)
